Do you find yourself always worrying about something or rather? This habit can be so distracting that you can't focus on the present. Find out how to tame the worrywart within!

Worrying can be debilitating. It will affect your health - both physical and mental and lead to depression and anxiety. It will take away from the joys of your daily life and reduce everything to insurmountable problems. Once you have acquired the habit, it's difficult to let go and it prevents you from thinking clearly about solutions to problems. It fogs up your brain and you will find yourself always stressed." If you are someone who worries a lot, then you will relate to the above well enough. The real question is, how do you go about stopping yourself from worrying?

Write it All Down

Get your thoughts organised and the best way to do that is to jot down in a small notebook what exactly it is that worries you.

Nothing is too small so you may even jot down vague nebulous fear. When you do this, you calmed down slightly because you are giving the worries concrete shape and it may make you realise that perhaps it is not a thing you should be worrying about! When you note down the worry, jot down an action next to it and if it's something that's beyond your control, you will find that you have nothing to worry about in the first place!

Make a List and Stick with it

After you jot down all your worries, it's time to make a priority to-do list. Eliminate or put aside things in your list that is out of your control and concentrate instead on those that you can do something about. From there, zoom in on prioritising your to-do list and make yourself concentrate on completing each task in the list. Do not allow you to jump ahead and worry about the next item. This way, you will find that you are more focus and not get sucked into wasting your energy on worrying. And as you finish each task and checked your list, you will find yourself calmer and feel more in control of the situation.

Dread Worst

Make a note of what you worry about and then check to see if they actually came to pass. In most cases, your dread is about something that might never happen. So the next time you worry, remind yourself that actually what you fear might not take place.

Keep telling yourself this and that should calm your mind. If you keep track of most of your fears and realise that you worried for nothing then you could recall the incidents and reassure yourself that you needn't worry and that things will turn out right somehow.

Imagining the Worst Case Scenario

Sometimes this technique helps. If things are overwhelming and you are fretting too much to even begin to do anything, take a moment and ask yourself, "What would happen if I don't get this done in time?" In a way, what's the worst that could happen if you couldn't handle a task or can't finish everything in time? Yes, you will find there are consequences but the truth is that it's not the end of the world either I When you have tried your best, nobody can ask more of you. This could be a very calming thought.

Just Breathe

Learn breathing techniques such as in yoga that you can put into practice. Breathe deeply and exhale slowly right to your diaphragm. You can chant something like a prayer or a mantra that helps fix your brain on the breathing and takes your mind off the worry. Keep doing this until you find your mind at a still. Concentrate on your breathing and consciously slow it down. You will find your mind calms down, as your breathing becomes a steady rhythm.
